Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation Post-Secondary School Scholarship Program
The purpose of the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation Post-Secondary Scholarship Program is to assist graduating seniors at Cook County High School in Grand Marais, MN to continue their education at Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN or Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in Cloquet, MN that they may develop those skills and gain the experience necessary to accomplish their vocational and educational goals.
To be considered for the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation Post-Secondary School Scholarship, students:
(1) Must be a senior at Cook County High School in Grand Marais, MN
(2) Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or U.S. permanent resident.
(3) Must have applied to be a full-time student at Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN or Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in Cloquet, MN
(4) Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above
(5) Must provide evidence of financial need
(6) Must possess the ability to successfully complete the chosen course of study
HOW TO APPLY:
Applications will be available for online submission March 17, 2017 – April 17, 2017.
Application, essays, and all supporting documents are due by 5:00 pm on April 17, 2017.
- Students must submit a complete application including all essay questions and a signed Statement of Authorization, Accuracy & Release
Supporting Documents Required with Application:
Your most recent high school transcript
Copy of the Student Aid Report generated from your FAFSA submission
Two letters of recommendation
Copy of your acceptance letter from Lake Superior College or Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College
SUBMISSION & DEADLINE:

Scholarships will be awarded in May for use in the 2017/18 academic year, beginning with the fall semester.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROCESS:
All applications will be reviewed for completeness by the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation staff. A recommendation committee comprised of teachers and administration at Cook County High School will review the submitted scholarship applications and make recommendations regarding scholarship award recipients. Final approval of all scholarships will be made by the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation Board of Directors.
DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS:
If you are selected as a recipient of the Lloyd K. Johnson Post-Secondary School Scholarship, awarded funds will be sent directly to Lake Superior College or Fond du Lac Tribal Community College. The Lake Superior College or Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College Student payment office will credit awarded funds to student tuition and authorized expenditures. Authorized scholarship expenditures include: all tuition, fees, books and basic school supplies required for classes. Recipients will be notified by the Foundation when scholarship award decisions are finalized by the Board of Directors.
AWARDS AND RENEWALS:
Scholarships awarded by the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation will provide for all costs associated with full tuition, fees, books and basic school supplies required for classes for recipients that maintain full-time student status (a minimum of 12 credits per semester), a 2.0 minimum GPA, and satisfactory academic progress.
Upon completion of one full school year, recipients may be eligible to apply for a renewal scholarship that will be considered based on the student’s first year GPA, the student maintaining full-time enrollment status and the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
A second renewal scholarship for one additional semester will be considered if the student meets the renewal criteria and submits a “Second Renewal” application. Students requesting scholarship renewals must submit the application and documentation found on the Foundation’s website. Scholarship renewals will not be automatic.
