Lloyd K. Johnson Post-Secondary Scholarship Program
2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the Lloyd K. Johnson Post-Secondary Scholarship Program in Grand Marais, Minnesota at Cook County High School. The scholarship program was a dream of Mr. Johnson’s who understood the importance of a good education and wanted post-secondary opportunities for students at his alma mater in Cook County. After Mr. Johnson passed in 2006, the Board of the Foundation worked diligently to set up the scholarship program, first at Lake Superior College in Duluth and then adding Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet in 2016. Through a competitive application process, the Foundation annually awards full scholarships to graduating seniors from Cook County High School covering tuition, books, school supplies and fees to successful scholarship recipients.
As we celebrate the 10th year of providing the scholarship program, we’re pleased to report that:
In addition to the scholarship award, the Foundation strongly believes in providing support services to all scholarship recipients. Support services by Foundation staff include regular check-ins with students during the school year, helping to problem-solve challenges that arise and assisting with any needed connections to supportive resources at the colleges, in the area or back in their home communities. Providing assistance beyond the scholarship award is one more way the Foundation hopes to better assist students to grow as individuals and to reach their educational goals.
