WTIP North Shore Community Radio
WTIP North Shore Community Radio located in Grand Marais, Minnesota was recently awarded a grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation of $9,095 to support a new satellite system. The new system will allow WTIP for the first time to receive and broadcast national programming that fits the needs of their unique area and integrate it into their local programming to best serve the needs of listeners. National programming is a significant step for WTIP in their development and will help listeners to have a larger perspective on issues and concerns that in turn will help inform on local issues.
WTIP North Shore Community Radio went on the air in April 1998 with a mission to provide: timely and accurate reports of local and state events, including weather, news and community happenings; a forum open to all residents of the area for the discussion of public issues; music and entertainment; diversity of programs designed to educate and inform; promotion of general well-being; and training to local residents to use the medium of radio to express their thoughts, feelings and talents.
